Villagers of Shibpur in Gurap are overwhelmed to find out that their neighbour Chandrakanta Kumar is now the deputy director of ISRO’s Chandrayaan-2 mission, which, however, failed to take off due to some technical snag. Chandrakanta Kumar was responsible for the wireless antenna panel of Chandrayaan-2 which will handle communications between Isro’s ground stations and the spacecraft.
The sudden abort in the launch of Chandrayaan-2 due to some technical fault, however, saddened the parents, family members and villagers, but all are very hopeful that the launch will soon take place. Mr Madhusudhan Kumar, the father of Chandrakanta and mother Ashima said Chandrakanta used study in the village school three decades ago and there were no pucca roads, no electricity, no water supply connection. With the fall of dusk, the entire village went to sleep.
“Agriculture was the only means of livelihood for our family but still I strived hard to give the best education to my son. He shifted to the city for higher studies. His hard work have paid him and today he is the deputy director of the Chandrayaan-2 mission.

He has specialised himself in information and broadcasting technology developing wireless panels to meet the demand. He has showed his merit working with ISRO and has equally served the Indian government in the field of information and broadcasting technology. The local villagers have gathered all around. They can’t believe their eyes.
Their little Chandrakanta who attended the village school walking through the slush has reached such a height of name, fame and prosperity,” said the proud father
“They have come to share their feelings of happiness and pride that a village boy has show his worth and have brought name and fame to the nation as well to Shibpur’s Gurap where he was brought up,” he said.
